Week 7 discussion

Okinawa was in the war for several years. During the war, lots of men lost their lives. As a result of that, women were forced to step out and take the responsibilities of the development of the society. Therefore, they were made independent and hardworking. Also, due to the extremely harsh situations, they had to work together closely in order to stay alive. It is really impressive to see the females being so powerful.

Later on, the United States took over the control. Thus, the whole situation begun to shift. The Okinawans lost a lot of their rights. As a portion of them, the Okinawa women lost many rights as well. As part of the consequence of losing their independency, these women’s revenues were greatly reduced. After the United States’ occupation, these women’s lives were clearly harder.
