As I have stated in my previous discussions, music is not much like other kinds of communications. It does not require people to understand any particular type of languages, but it is able to connect everyone together through their hearts. Like in “Coming to you, Minu”, the Korean government failed to do anything to stop the spread of its messages. People could feel the ideas inside of it easily without leaving any evidence.

Connecting with Goffe’s talkings in Jamaica, these two events are actually quite alike. They both reveal the importance of what music could do when coming to the relationships among different racial groups (possibly countries). That is very powerful.

With all the tragedies we see through Kwon’s “the work of waiting”, it is clear that many immigrants suffer from being apart from their family. This should be a problem that we can focus on. The whole Korean immigrant worker thing is a great example. Despite the fact of facing…

It is very obvious that Many Okinawans, who were convicted as spies, had extremely harsh lives during that period of time. Living in such a society, people would constantly doubt at each other. The great value of trust would be completely lost undergoing that situation. Moreover, their own culture was…

Week 7 discussion

Okinawa was in the war for several years. During the war, lots of men lost their lives. As a result of that, women were forced to step out and take the responsibilities of the development of the society. Therefore, they were made independent and hardworking. Also, due to the extremely harsh situations, they had to work together closely in order to stay alive. It is really impressive to see the females being so powerful.

Later on, the United States took over the control. Thus, the whole situation begun to shift. The Okinawans lost a lot of their rights. As a portion of them, the Okinawa women lost many rights as well. As part of the consequence of losing their independency, these women’s revenues were greatly reduced. After the United States’ occupation, these women’s lives were clearly harder.

Among all three of these groups (Honolulu Chinese, Befu Koreans, and the battlefront Okinawans), cultural productions had played a very important role. No matter what kind/aspect of art it is, all these productions had somehow released the tension among different groups (politically). These three groups of people all had to…

If we want to talk about Kawashima’s intention on focusing on the Korean worker oppression by the Soaikai, we need to dive into the background stories during that time. Koreans were suffering a lot under the oppression by the Japanese government. They were forced to face extremely unfair conditions. And…

It is clear that the Koreans are very much against the Japanese colonial rule for they were not treated equally. From a very long time ago, the Koreans were under China’s control. When the Qing dynasty fell down, they had finally got a chance to be self-governing. But soon the…

Well, this article is pretty good. It's not long nor wordy, but it has explained many ideas clearly. But as what I had commented on the other article, I feel that she somehow did not really understand the situation going in Honolulu. I am not saying that I am right and she is wrong, but our understands are somehow differed.
